Automotive

The Automotive Pathways at R.L. Turner includes a choice for the students to choose automotive technology service or automotive collision repair courses. The goal is to be a high performing entry level employee for one of our many dealership and fleet partners. They will fuel their passion for automobiles and turn a skilled trade into a career they can enjoy and be employed in for life.

Strands

AUTOMOTIVE TECHOLOGY

Automotive Technology provides students with the essential skills required to secure an entry-level position with the automotive field and/ or foundational knowledge necessary to transition into a post-secondary program in automotive technology. Students gain hands-on experience by working with professional automotive equipment and diagnostic tools, learning about industry standard safety rules, service information, career strategies and the importance of job performance. Topics discussed include engine operation, electrical systems, fuel injection, computer systems, brake and basic engine repair.

COLLISION AND REPAIR

Collision and Repair provides students with knowledge of the processes, technologies, and materials used in the reconstruction of damaged vehicles. The course is designed to teach the concepts and theory of systems related to automotive collision repair and refinishing/painting.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY STRAND COURSES

Auto Basics (9th)

The students are introduced to various aspects of the automotive industry and learn about auto terminology, basic operation, basic maintenance, shop safety and learning repair facility safety principles.

Auto Technology 1 (10th)

Students will learn Advanced diagnostics ,operations of components , internal engine components , strategy based diagnostics , and individual repair techniques.

Auto Technology 2 (11th & 12th)

Students will learn a continuation of strategy based diag.,advanced individual repair techniques as well as advanced aspects of bumper to bumper repairs and repair techniques.

COLLISION AND REPAIR STRAND COURSES

Energy, Power, and Transportation (9th)

The student will be introduced to various aspects of the automotive industry and learn about energy sources and begin applying shop safety and learning repair facility safety principles.

Principles of Business Marketing & Finance (10th)

Students begin learning how to repair body damage and perform repairs to industry standards.

Advanced Collision & Repair (12th)

Advanced Collision repair students continue building on their repair knowledge and begin mastering body repair and painting techniques to complete the vehicle repair process.

Expert Teachers

Teachers receive over 20 hours a year in automotive update training. Each teacher is an ASE Certified Master Technician with countless years of industry experience.

Ronald Smith

Mr.Smith has over 25 years of experience in the industry from Technician to Service Director, ASE master tech, GM master technician and is a veteran of the U.S. Army.
