Overview: The Junior World Affairs Council (JWAC) is an organization for high school students designed to increase their knowledge of international issues and foster global awareness.It is typically a program sponsored by a local World Affairs Council, which is a nonpartisan organization dedicated to educating the public about global issues and America's role in the world. The program engages high school students (grades 9-12) with topics like civics, public policy, international affairs, culture, and history.

Why join? JWAC is a way for young people to become more informed global citizens and future leaders. Overview: Model United Nations stresses learning how to solve word problems through collaboration and negotiation. Students learn the way to research the issues, what nations have previously done to tackle the problem, and to draft a statement that describes the steps nations can follow to improve the situation. They learn the techniques used by diplomats.

Why join? The structure of Model UN follows the operation of the actual United Nations with the requirements of professional decorum, academic research, public speaking,and persuasive writing; therefore, members of the organization learn the tools needed to be successful. It offers a chance to learn about global issues and how international bodies like the United Nations work, and can help you meet people from around the world and gain confidence. Additionally, the experience is a strong addition to college and job applications.
